RN Vision-STS: Erste Punkte beim GT4-European Series Saisonauftakt in Zolder

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Nico Menzel (Silver-Cup):

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):

The German RN Vision STS racing team scored their first points of the new season at the opening weekend of the GT4 European Series at Zolder. In a full field of 44 cars, the BMW Juniors Beitske Visser and Nico Menzel finished both races in 7th place.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #110; Beitske Visser/Nico Menzel (Silver-Cup):
The two BMW Motorsport Junior-pilots Beitske Visser and Nico Menzel, who will compete in RN Vision STS’s #110 BMW M4 GT4 for the whole season, already managed to score points in the first two races of the season by finishing in 7th position on Saturday as well as on Sunday. While the duo started from 8th position on Saturday, their starting position in the Sunday race had not been as good: The two BMW Junior-pilots raced their way through the field from 17th position on the grid. In addition to their 7th place finish overall they also scored a 6th place finish in the Silver Cup standings on Sunday.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #111 Gabriele Piana/Razvan Umbrarescu (Silver-Cup):
On Saturday, Gabriele Piana began the race from 6th position on the grid and climbed as high as third place in the overall standings in the early going. Unfortunately, the Italian was slowed down by high temperatures in the gearbox before the pit-stop and fell back to 6th place before handing over to Razvan Umbrarescu. After the pit-stop, things went from bad to worse: Due to a time-penalty for the pit-stop, which had been one second shorter than the mandatory minimum stopping time, Umbrarescu had to serve a one second Stop&Go penalty in pitlane and fell back to 18th place. He then made his way back up to 11th position overall – and 9th place in the Silver-Cup standings – only to be knocked back down to 19th place overall and 11th position in the Silver-Cup standings by a post race 31-second time penalty for track limit infringements.
Umbrarescu had qualified the #111 in 11th position overall and 8th place in the Silver-Cup standings for the second race of the weekend on Sunday. The Romanian managed to improve his position during his stint and handed the car over to Piana in 6th position overall. When the 31 year old Italian re-entered the race after the pit-stops, he found himself in 14th position. For a while he was able to get back up to 8th place before being hampered once again by high temperatures in the gear box. Ultimately, he’d finish the race in 12th position overall and 10th place in the Silver-Cup standings.

RN Vision-STS BMW M4 GT4 #112 Pavel Lefterov/Miguel Christovão (Pro-Am-Cup):
Pavel Lefterov began the first race from 10th position in the overall standings. Lefterov then managed to advance to 8th place before the car began to suffer from gear box problems which necessitated an early pit-stop. When Miguel Christovão took over the wheel of the #112, the car had fallen back to 40th place. Christovão made the best out of a bad situation and improved – despite a loss of brake performance – to 30th position overall and 11th place in the Pro-Am-standings.
On Sunday, the #112 started from 28th position on the grid. Christovão, who had also qualified the car, made up some positions and handed the car over to Lefterov in the 23rd place. Unfortunately, the team’s pitstop had been too short and so they had to serve a Stop&Go penalty. Additionally, Lefterov experienced some rather robust driving by competitors in the back of the field and problems with rising temperatures, so he finally finished in 29th position overall and 12th place in the Pro-Am standings.

After the season opener at Zolder, team owner Marek Zuchowski is rather optimistic for the rest of the season: “All three of our driver-crews showed in the free practice and qualifying sessions that they can compete for good finishes and championship points. In the races, only the #110 showed their true potential, which was due to the fact that we still have to adapt to the BMW and the timing of the pit-stops. But the first qualifying, where we managed to place all three cars in the top-10, clearly showed that our team has the potential for good results.”

Nico Menzel: “We’re a really good team. Working with the RN Vision STS people is very enjoyable, they are at the same time focused and relaxed. Sharing a car with Beitske is also good team work. I was only able to make up so many places in my stint on Sunday, because she had treated our tires so well and had handed the car over to me in perfect condition. That worked really well for us.”

Beitske Visser: “I’m quite happy with the opening weekend. We managed to finish both races in 7th place in a field of more than 40 cars and all that on a track that is not really well-suited for our BMW M4 GT4. That’s a good result. If everything had gone perfectly, even better results would have been possible. I think we can fight for podium finishes once we get to know each other a bit better and when we race on tracks that suit our BMW M4 GT4 even better.”
