Die deutsche RN Vision STS-Mannschaft blickt zufrieden auf ihre erste abgelaufene Saison in der GT4 European Series zurück. Die Porsche-Mannschaft aus Korschenbroich war zu Beginn des Jahres mit 2 Porsche Cayman GT4 in die europäische Top-GT4-Serie eingestiegen. Mit den Fahrerpaarungen Pavel Lefterov (BUL) und Jan-Louis Jasper (D) auf dem Cayman mit der #112 und den Piloten Razvan Umbrarescu (ROM), Gabriele Piana (I) und Hendrik Still (D) auf der #111 nahm die deutsche Mannschaft an allen 6 Meetings des GT4 European Series Northern Cups teil.
Die deutsche Mannschaft konnte sich dabei nicht nur als bestes Porsche-Einsatzteam in der Saison 2017 profilieren, sondern auch zahlreiche Klassensiege einstreichen. Kurz nach dem Start der Saison hatte die veranstaltende SRO die Pilotenkategorien neu geordnet: Umbrarescu und seine beiden Partnerpiloten Piana und Still starteten mit der #111 in der Pro-Am-Klasse. Lefterov und GT-Aufsteiger Jasper in der #112 wurden hingegen in der Silver-Klasse eingestuft.
Während zu Saisonbeginn die #112 mehrere Top-10 Resultate erzielen konnte, kam in der zweiten Saisonhälfte die #111 immer mehr in Schuss. Bei insgesamt 12 Saisonrennen erzielten der Pro-Am-Cayman mit Umbrarescu und seinen beiden Partnern insgesamt 5 Klassensiege und 3 weitere Podiumsplätze in der Klasse. Hinzu kamen 2 Klassenpoles. Das Silver-Duo Lefterov /Jasper stieg einmal zu Saisonbeginn auf das Podium ihrer Klasse. Highlight der Saison war das Rennwochenende am Slovakiaring, wo Piana und Umbrarescu 2 Gesamtpodiumsplätze und 2 Klassensiege erzielen konnten. Lediglich ein Unfall im Finallauf am Nürburgring verhagelte Umbrarescu am Ende den Titel in der Pro-Am-Klasse.
In der Endabrechnung der Serie belegte Razvan Umbrarescu am Ende mit 150 Punkten den 2.Platz in der Pro-Am-Klasse hinter den 2017´er Champions Luc Braams und Duncan Huisman. Damit wurde er auch auf der SRO-Saisonabschluss-Gala ausgezeichnet. Gabriele Piana, der bei 2 der Runden durch Hendrik Still vertreten wurde, konnte sich auf dem 4.Platz der Endwertung mit 138 Punkten klassieren. Lefterov und Jasper wurden in der Silver-Wertung mit 70 Punkten auf dem achten Endrang verzeichnet.
Teammanager Wolfgang Drabiniok zeigt sich mit der Premierensaison zufrieden. „Wir waren über die Saison hinweg die beste Porsche Mannschaft im Feld und haben im Kampf um den Pro-Am-Klassentitel bis zuletzt mithalten können. Schade, das uns im Finale der Unfall passiert ist, aber so ist halt Racing. Die nächste Saison werden wir wieder in der GT4 European Series angreifen. Die Serie wird durch die Integration in die Blancpain Sprint-Weekends 2018 deutlich aufgewertet. Für die kommende Saison versuchen wir so viele Erfolgsparameter im Team wie möglich zu erhalten. Es wird aber einige Neuerungen geben die wir in Kürze bekannt geben werden.“
Noch bis zum 10.12.2017 repräsentiert RN-Vision STS die GT4 European Serie auf der Essen-Motorshow repräsentieren. Dort kann das Team vom 01.12.2017-10.12.2017 in Halle 6 am Stand 6D114 besucht werden. Weitere Informationen zum geplanten Rennprogramm 2018 folgen in Kürze.

The German RN Vision STS team, which has been competing in the Northern Cup of the GT4 European Series with two Porsche Caymans since the beginning of 2017, looks back on a successful first season in Europe‘s most prestigious competition for GT4 cars. With their drivers Pavel Lefterov (BUL) and Jan-Louis Jasper (D) in the #112 Cayman and Razvan Umbrarescu (ROM), Gabriele Piana (I) and Hendrik Still (D)in the #111 sister car, the team took part in all six events of the series. The team from Korschenbroich did not only score numerous class wins, but also managed to finish the season as best of the Porsche Cayman squads.
After the SRO – the organizing body of the GT4 European Series – had changed the series‘ class structure shortly after the beginning of the season, Umbrarescu and his co-pilots Piana and Still continued to compete for the Pro/Am-title, whereas Lefterov and GT-newcomer Jasper were placed in the newly-created Silver-Cup for up-and-coming talents. While the #112 scored several finishes in the overall top 10 during the first part of the season, the #111 had its strongest showings in the second half of the year. Umbrarescu and his two co-pilots scored five class wins and three further podium results over the course of the season‘s twelve races, while also claiming two pole positions in the Pro/Am-class. Umbrarecu and Piana had their best weekend at the Slovakiaring round, where the team scored two class wins and finished on the overall podium in both races. In the end, it was only an accident during the season finale at the Nürburgring that cost Umbrarescu a shot at the title in the Pro/Am-Class. Lefterov and Jasper finished on the podium of the Silver Cup once at the first race meeting of the year.
When all was said and done, Razvan Umbrarescu came in in second place in Pro/Am with 170 points, while Gabriele Piana – who was only able to compete in four of the season‘s six rounds due to other commitments – racked up fourth place with 138 points. In the Silver-Cup, Lefterov and Jasper finished the season in eighth place with 70 points.
Team manager Wolfgang Drabiniok was reasonably happy with the teams first season in an international series. “We were the best Porsche team in the field over the course of the season and were in with a shot at the Pro/Am title right up to the season’s last races. It’s a pity that we got involved in that accident at the season finale, but that’s racing. Next year, we’ll be back in the GT4 European Series, which will gain a lot of prestige due to being part of the Blancpain Sprint Cup support package. We’ll stick to the things that have worked out well this year in 2017, but there will also be some news, which we will announce soon.”
Next week, RN Vision STS will represent the GT4 European Series at the Essen Motorshow. The team can be visited at Stall 6D114 in Building 6 from 01.12.2017-10.12.2017. Further information regarding the teams planned program will be released in the near future.
